Helping authors of fantasy and romance polish their manuscripts with professional editing and proofreading.

My job as an editor and proofreader is simple: I’m here to help ensure your fiction book is as ready for publication as it can possibly be. Although I will happily edit fantasy and romance of all kinds, my specialties are high fantasy and cozy fantasy, which means you’re putting your manuscript in the hands of an editor who understands the norms of these genres and knows what both readers and publishers are looking for.

I can provide you with fine-tuned edits that guarantee your manuscript flows well, reads clearly, and engages readers so they keep coming back for more. Most importantly, throughout the entire editing process, my priority will be to preserve your voice and style. After all, you’re the one who accomplished the impressive feat of writing a whole book; I’m just buffing out any imperfections!

Although I have a university degree unrelated to publishing, the experience gave me a solid foundation upon which I’ve built knowledge that makes me more than qualified to edit your manuscript. I’ve supplemented that knowledge with numerous professional courses centered on publishing, and I continue to do so on a regular basis. As a member of the Editor’s Freelance Association, I take pride in delivering my best work every time and would love the opportunity to fulfill your editing needs!

    LEARN MORE

Because the majority of my clients are authors hoping to self-publish with smaller budgets, I strive to keep my pricing just below industry standards so that my services are as affordable as possible for everyone. That being said, if the cost of a project is too high for you to pay in two installments (deposit + remainder upon delivery), I’m more than happy to set up a different payment plan. I can also work with you to break your manuscript into multiple, smaller projects that are more affordable. Please don’t hesitate to ask!

    • Fill out this inquiry form or send me an email.
    • I’ll reach out to you by email within 48 hours. We’ll either continue to exchange emails or hop on a Zoom call (your choice!) to discuss your project needs, objectives, timeline, and budget. I’ll do a free sample edit on up to 1,500 words of your manuscript so you get an idea of the quality of my editing. This will also help me determine exactly what your project needs so I can provide you with an accurate quote.
    • If we decide to move forward together, I’ll send you a contract to sign. You’ll pay a deposit, and we’ll refine any last details before you email me your manuscript as a Word document.
    • I’ll get to work! I edit in Word using Track Changes so every suggestion is visible and yours to either accept or reject. I also utilize Comments for those suggestions that are more complex and may require an explanation.
    • Once I’ve finished, I’ll send your manuscript back to you. Copy and line edits will also include a style sheet, and line edits will include an editorial letter.
    • We can exchange as many emails as necessary to ensure all your questions are answered, and all packages include an optional follow-up Zoom call within 14 days of delivery. If I’ve done copy or line edits, you’re entitled to one revision, during which I will use Track Changes and Comments to address anything you’ve changed based on my previous edits.
    • After our work together concludes, you’re welcome to email me with additional follow-up questions at any time, and I’ll reply as my schedule allows.

My specialties are fantasy and romance, with a particular love for high fantasy and cozy fantasy, although I’ll gladly edit any subgenre. I also enjoy science fiction and am open to other genres, too.

Please see my Services section for an overview of what each level of editing entails. If you’re still unsure which service(s) to request, feel free to reach out; I’ll take a look at your manuscript and help you determine how much editing is needed.

I do, and I actually prefer starting with one if at all possible! I’ll gladly edit up to 1,500 words of your manuscript at no cost so you have an idea of the quality of my editing. This will also help me determine exactly what your project needs so I can provide you with an accurate quote.

This depends on various factors like word count and deadline, so I typically can’t provide you with a definitive answer until I’ve performed a sample edit on your work. That being said, this is not currently my full-time job, so line edits and copy edits generally take 3-5 weeks and 2-4 weeks respectively, while proofreads may take 1-2 weeks. These numbers are, of course, estimates.

After a sample edit, if you need a project back outside of the timeline I give you, a rush fee of 25% of the total project cost will be added as this requires me to put other responsibilities on hold so I can finish by the deadline.

I work primarily in Microsoft Word using Track Changes and accept .doc or .docx files. For proofreading, I can also accept formatted PDFs to be edited in Adobe Acrobat on a limited basis.

My references include the Chicago Manual of Style and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Yes, I require that 50% of the total project cost be paid before beginning any work. If this isn’t feasible for you, please let me know and we can discuss options on a case-by-case basis.

Packages with line editing and/or copyediting include one revision. Additional revisions will start at 15% of the total project cost. If you’ve added a significant amount of content since the initial edit (e.g., whole chapters), revisions may range up to 50% of the total project cost.

Absolutely! I love scenes of any spice level and am very adept at making sure no one ends up with, say, three arms (unless extra appendages are intended, of course 🦑).

Not at this time, but check back soon!

I do not utilize generative AI in any part of my editing process. If you’ve utilized AI to write your manuscript, I humbly request that you look elsewhere for an editor. If I discover that your manuscript was written using generative AI after I’ve already begun editing, I will enact the termination clause in our contract.
